Maybe this isn't the first hike I've ever been on, but it was the first hike that I went on with my boyfriend. This was the hike that changed the way how I hiked, where I went, and why from then on. Sure, this could easily be a love story of how my boyfriend and I first met and our first date, but I'll leave all the mushy, gushy stuff out. It was the first time we had met and considering that hiking was a common interest, we decided that a hike would be a perfect first date. Mind you, I haven't gone on a hike in maybe half a year due to other personal issues and wasn’t as active as I wanted to be. So with that, we would did a simple hike near where he lived in Santa Monica. I met up with him and he decided to take me to Murphy Ranch. It was this trail with old abandoned Nazi bunkers, broken, half way torn and covered in graffiti. But then the trail led us to some rather interesting areas, not just for the random art and structures but the stories we shared along the way. This is where he tried to test and see what I really knew about the outdoors and if I can handle it. I suppose I passed because apparently, it was the start of a long lasting, fun filled and adventurous relationship. From then on, we went on local hike trails to waterfalls, found natural hot springs, explored to different beaches and have nice relaxing days on hammocks. Compared to many other first dates that I went on, this one had topped it off. I didn’t have to fix my hair, put on makeup, or try on clothes for hours. Finding someone who shares the same interests and passions as you just makes things even more exciting than they already are. It made me want to go out more and explore new places, find new things and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing ever since.
